AUCKLAND CHAMPIONS TOURNAMENT NEXT WEEK Entries for the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association's annual championship tournament, which commences with junior and intermediate events on Monday next, show, as was to be expected, a considerable reduction in numbers. J. Roach, of Hamilton, who won all three men's events last year, is not competing, and no entry has been received from Misses Nessie and Margaret Beverley, of Matamata. Miss P. Cooke, therefore, will be the only senior player defending a title. She will meet strong opposition from Miss B. Potter, who-so nearly defeated her in the final last year. In the men's singles J. T. Mayson is seeded first and, in the absence of N. F. Bedford, should be capable of winning the event. Strong entries have been received for the intermediate events, in which all Auckland's leading juniors have entered, as well as P. Smith and Winnie Smith, from North Auckland, J. S. Massey, F. G. Haddock and Leo Roach, from Hamilton. Considerable interest will also centre on Miss E. Attwood, holder o? the Dominion junior title, who i 6 now residing in Auckland.
