NAVAL PATROL PLAN
ENTHUSIASTIC RESPONSE An enthusiastic response has followed the recent announcement of the formation of the naval auxiliary patrol service. Interest has been widespread l and many inquiries have been received from men in country districts, whose services in the auxiliary patrol cannot be used.An officer at the Devonport- Naval Base said yesterday that the scheme, as far as Auckland was concerned, provided for the establishment of a flotilla of launches suitable for patrol purposes. They would be manned by voluntary enlistment and, until permanent mobilisation, the crews would be engaged only on part-time duties and training. For that reason, the only recruits required were men and youths who were readily . available to man boats at Auckland. Applications for enlistment from men in country districts could not at present be considered.
