TRIAL BLACKOUT
THIRD OF THE SERIES I
MID-WEEK TEST ARRANGED The third of Auckland's blackout tests, as part of the emergency' precautions, will be held next Wednesday night, this time lasting for 40 minutes instead of 30 minutes as in the two earlier trials, which were held on Sunday nightii. This will also be the last of the series of which the public will receive prior notice. Arrangements are now being made for a reconnaissance flight by aeroplane over the metropolitan area, with a broadcast from the, machine dealing with the effect of the blackout. - | The warning signal for this test will be sounded at 8.50 and the all clear signal will be given at 9.30. The Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, as chief warden of the Emergency Precautions Service, said yesterday that the trial would be carried out'on the same lines as the two previous tests and every effort would be made to make it as effective as possible. All male warden personnel would be on duty and on this occasion would call at premises to draw the attention of householders and others Ito any defects in lighting, and report cases of non-observance of the regulations. The Technical Group Committees would also be asked to man their posts and to report the results .to their headquarters. . C ''' l - ■' 4 - M As with previous blackouts honse.holders will be required to see that no lights are visible from outside. Vehicular traffic is being requested to stop and remain stationary during the period of the trial. Parked vehicles must have all [ lights extinguished.
