MID-SPRING FASHIONS
ELLERSLIE RACE MEETING The weather was anything but season- - able for the opening day of. the Auck- ! land Racing Club's mid-spring meeting j at Ellcrslio 011 Saturday, but it did not I affect the enthusiasm of women race- I goers, and the dressing was adapted to the intermittent sunshine and showers. There was a sombre note in the choice J of colours, black, navy blue and grey predominating, but an artistic contrast- } ing of accessories gave a dash of, brightness to the general effect and accented , the neutral tones. Clever details in trimming added an individual air to the frocks that were worn with light-weight, j coats, special attention being devoted to tl the neckline. Tailored suits were given soft feminine relief in hand-worked >1 muslin blouses and befrilled jabots. Fur wraps and fur coats were brought out j of their temporary retirement and made f an appropriately cosy finish to frocks 1 and ensembles. ° Shallow-crowned straw hats were E popular, simply banded with gros- » grain ribbon or finished with stiffened ® bows. Colour was provided in novelty 6 handbags, shoes and umbrellas, and in s the exotic necklaces that harmonised with the tonings of the ensembles. J The beautiful green lawns at Ellerslie a presented a delightful picture bordered b with beds of scarlet salvia, autumn- j tinted begonias, stocks and pansies. 1
