SIX MINISTERS
POLITICAL ACTIVITIES BY-ELECTION CAMPAIGN SUPPORT FOR CANDIDATE (0.C.) GISBORNE, Sunday Campaigning in the Bay of Plenty byelection has not so far been spectacular, but it is clear that on the Government side at least it will develop into a firstclass battleground before the date of the election, December 13. Up to the present the National Party candidate, Mr. W. Sullivan, has been conducting a lone campaign on the Gisborne side of the electorate, which comprises the larger half, and addressed two meetings each day last week. Ho will spend three days this week on the other side of the range and then return to this side again. The Labour candidate, Mr. C. Mills, has already been substantially assisted. While he is campaigning on the Bay of Plenty side the member for Gisborne. Mr. D. N. Coleman, has been speaking nightly on this side. Early in the campaign two Ministers, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan and the Hon. IT. G. It. Mason, foiind occasion to visit the electorate and all last week Mr. Mills was supported on the platform by the Hon. A. IT. Nordmeyer. The Hon. J. G. Barclay will enter the fray this week in company with Mr. Mills, while on the Gisborne side Mr. Coleman is to be reinforced by Mr. E. L. Cullen, member for Havvke's Bay. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, and the Hon. W. Nash are booked for a hurried tour of the electorate in the closing stages. If there are no further additions in the meantime, this will mean that no fewer than six Ministers will have been in the Bay of Plenty electorate since the campaign started, while the list of private members assisting Mr. Mills will be brought to at least three by the addition of Mrs. M. M. Dreaver (Waitemata). So far no support has been announced for the National Party candidate, but it is unlikely that the challenge from the other side will be ignored. It is understood that the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. S. G. Holland, will probably find timo for a hurried tour of the electorate, while Mr. W. J. Broad foot (Waitomo), and Mr. W. S. Goosman (Waikato), have been mentioned as other likely campaigners.
