SHORTAGE OF HONEY

UNFAVOURABLE SEASON (0.C.) • DUNEDIN, Friday Stocks of honey in Southland are being drawn on by DunMin merchants because of the shortage that exists in the north. Reports from Dunedin indicate that reserve stocks there are small and that a shortage already existing might become serious at the end of the year. One Invercargill merchant recently sent away 32 tins, of honey of 601b. each to the Dunedin market. The president of the Master Grocers' Association in Invercargill, Sir. G. H. Westerby, said the size of the honey crop in the coming season was unpredictable, although if the present spell of cold weather continued there would he a shortage. At this time the bees should be extracting nectar from wild fidwers which vent to make up the dark or second grade honey. The cold weather, however, was militating against this and some beekeepers were being forced to buy sugar to feed their bees.
