COLOURFUL PANTOMIME

VALESKA DANCING SCHOOL Capably presented by a large number of pupils of the Valeska School of Dancing, directed by the principal, Madame Valeska, "The Peep Show, a colourful pantomime, was shown in the Town Hall concert chamber before a fairly large attendance last night. Those taking part included several very young children, all of whom showed confidence and resource. Varied dancing items, with a predominance of tap, drew enthusiastic applause from the audience. Music was supplied by Walter Smith's Aloha Orchestra, of about 14 Hawaiian instruments. Mrs. Gwen Killip was the accompanist. One of the best items of the evening was the Prince's Solo dance, from "Swan Lake," in which Bryan Ashbridge, holder of elementary, intermediate, advanced and solo seal awards in the Royal Academy of Dancing gave a talented performance. Another meritorious effort was that of the Three Marvels —Yvonne de Baugh, Russell Mitldlebrook and Cos Tucker— who recently presented an act in one of the main' city theatres. The pantomime will be shown again to-night. Winners of the school dancing championships for 1941 were: —Senior cup: Crcina Gee, 1; Yvonne de Baugh, 2. Junior cup: Ny-ra Davis, 1; Betty Hilton, 2. Junior medal: Patti© Hilton. The trophies were presented during the evening.
