OLD THAMES RESIDENT

DEATH OF MR. J. TWOHILL The death occurred yesterday of Mr. James Twohill, one of. the bestknown residents of Thames. Mr. Twohill, who was 65, was the proprietor of the Brian Boru Hotel, a house which has been conducted by members of his family for over 70 years. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Twohill, and for many years had been prominently associated with racing and trotting activities in tho district.

As a young man he followed the trade of blacksmith, being for a time at Paeroa, but for the greater part of his life he resided at Thames. He was a keen and successful athlete, winning many running trophies. After the death of his father Tie assisted his mother, tho late Mrs. Kate Twohill, in the conduct of the Brian Boru Hotel. He owned and raced a number of horses, including Princess of Thule, Capitol and Stockman, all jumpers, these horses being ridden by his partner, Mr. M. Deeble. An outstanding horse raced by Mr. Twohill was Soultnne, which, after many successes in New Zealand, was taken to Australia and won the Newmarket Handicap. For the past 25 years Mr. Twohill had been a member and steward of the Thames Jockey Club and was the first and only president of the Thames Trotting Club, which he was instrumental in forming in 1919. Mr. Twohill was not married.
