PATRIOTIC FUNDS
TAXATION SUGGESTED (0.c.) . PUKEKOHE, Friday _ The present system of raising patriotic funds was criticised at tho annual meeting of the Franklin (Zone D) Patriotic Executive, held at Pukekohe this evening. The meeting, at which there was an attendance of about 50, carried a. resolution appealing to the patriotic subcommittees throughout Franklin to work in four competitive groups to raise £15,000 to provide Franklin's quota of the 1942 all-purposes patriotic appeal for £500,000. It was explained that Franklin's quota was £20.000. but already slightly more than £SOOO had been received The' Mayor of Pukekohe. Mr. M. R Grierson, moved" that it be a recommendation to the National Patriotic Board through the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council that the present system of raising money voluntarily he replaced by a system by which each person contributed proportionately to his income, tho expenditure of the fund to be vested as at present in the national patriotic organisation. The motion was adopted.
