AUCKLANDER'S DEATH
MR. JAMES- DONALD CITY COUNCIL SERVICE The death occurred at a private hospital yesterday of Mr. James Donald, a well-known resident of Grey Lynn and for many years a representative of the district on the controlling local bodies. Mr. Donald was born in Auckland in 1377 and was a son of the late Mr. Alexander Donald, a former Mayor of Grey Lynn and the founder of the firm of A. Donald and Sons, of which Mr. James Donald was the owner at the time of his death. Mr. Donald took an active interest in local body affairs for the greater part of his life. He was for some years a member of the Grey Lynn Borough Council and was later a member of tho Point Chevalier Road Board before that district amalgamated with the city. In 1923 he was elected to the Auckland City Council and continued as a member until the municipal elections this year when he did not seek re-election. He was always keenly interested in sport and, in addition to bowling and tennis, devoted much time to encouraging yachting on the upper part of the harbour. He was for many years president of the Richmond Cruising Club and at the time of liis death was an honorary member and patron of the Hub. His wife, formerly Miss Marion Jouning. died seven years ago and he is survived by three sons and one daughter. The Mayor, .Mr. J. A. C. A Hum, forwarded a message of sympathy to the members of Mr. Donald's family yesterday. At tho funeral to-morrow the City Council will be represented by the Mayor, a number of councillors and the town clerk, Mr. J. Melling.
