THE FIRE BOARD

ENGINE FOR EMERGENCY Advice that a £2500 fire engine and Eump ordered some time ago from a -ondon firm for the use of the Emergency Precautions Service had been released for export was received at a meeting of the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board yesterday. It was stated it would be sent as soon as shipping could be arranged. Seven tenders were received for the new central station buildings and adjoining block of single men's fiats which are to be erected on a site opposite the present one in Pitt Street. A special committee was appointed to consider the tenders and make an early report to the board. Fifty-nine calls had been received during the month, the superintendent, Mr. W. L. Wilson, reported. Twentyone were actual fires, three grass or rubbish outbreaks, seven in chimneys, and 28 false alarms.
