PROMOTION IN NAVY
A FORMER AUCKLANDER Rapid promotion in naval service has come to Lieutenant R. W. Chiswell,' son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Chiswell, of 11 George Street, Mount Albert, who is now serving as second in command of one of the new vessels patrolling the English coast. Born in Auckland 32 years ago, Lieutenant Chiswell was educated at the Grafton and Kowhai Schools and became a commercial artist after passing through the Elam School of Art. In 1939 he went to Australia and was ployed on the staff of the Sydney Sun. He entered the Royal Australian Naval Volunteer Reserve last January after passing the entrance examination with honours, and went to Flinders Naval College as sub-lieutenant. He was sent to Britain, where he completed his training, and was promoted to lieutenant in May. , Lieutenant Chiswell was a prominent hockey plaver while in Auckland. A brother, W ? arrant-Ofßcer ■ N. W. Chiswell, is with the Tank Brigade « Waiouru.
