WRESTLING CONTEST

BLOMFI ELD DEFEATS SINGH FALL WITH OCTOPUS CLAMP A professional wrestling contest at. the Town Rail last- evening, between Lofty Blomfield, of Auckland, and Jaget Singh, of India, was won by Blomfield, who obtained the only fall of the match in tiie fifth round, this being a submission to his favourite hold, the octopus clamp. The bout was witnessed by a good attendance. Blomfield demonstrated that, he had benefited by his two previous matches, although toward the close of last evening's contest he appeared to have had enough. After he had obtained his fall, up to which stage he had done practically all the attacking, Blomfield tired a little, and Singh went all out for an canalising fall. He angled for his deathlock, which he applied in the seventh round and twice in the eighth, but on each occasion Blomfield escaped under the ropes. It was a bright and spectacular match with plenty of incident to amuse the onlookers. There was very little roughness compared with bouts previously seen this season, although the referee had to> issue, warnings to both men for using the rabbit punch and for hair-pulling in order to escape from holds.
