THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE BANK OF N.Z. IMPROVE Firm conditions were again in evidence in trading on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. While the two leading insurances steadied at advanced rates Nationals were lifted Gd on sale at 20s, the best price for over a year, and more attention was given to banks. Following substantial business last week around 398 9d. Bank of New Zealands moved up yesterday to 40s, with the market slightly firmer at the close. Interest in other sections also remained strong and gains generally outnumbered losses.

DEEP BLACKWATER SHAFT
(0.c.) GREY MOUTH, Wednesday The Prohibition shaft, from which is produced about 98 per cent of the output from the quart/, mine of Blackwatcr Mines, Limited, at Waiuta. has reached a depth of 2500 ft, and il is the deepest shaft in New Zealand. The slope of the reef is such that work is now proceeding on a contract for the sinking of the shaft to the next level. No. 15. a further 125 ft.
