CITY WATERWORKS LOAN

SMALL INVESTORS ACTIVE A considerable portion of the City Council waterworks loan of il'i.vooo .-till remains to he taken up. The debentures, which are being issued to finance the development of the water supply to the North Shore area, have a currency of HO years frain September 1 and bear interest at iiy, per cemt. The Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. All urn, said yesterday that he was not perturbed at the fact that the loan had so far moved'; slowly. Be bad anticipated that the issue jof the loan, synchronising as it did with the Government War Loan of £ lo.oou.orio, would of necessity require to be kept open for some little time before it was fully subscribed. Then again the second instalment of 'the Ooverriment War Loan was payable yesterday, and this undoubtedly would absorb a certain amount of money that would otherwise have been available for investment in. the City Council debentures. ' Mr. Allum said one thine he was very pleased about was the number of •'small investors who were taking up parcels in the loan. Hp thought it was a very gtood thing for citizens to have a direct interest of this kind in their city.
