YACHTING PRIZE NIGHTS

Takapuna Boating Club.—There was a good attendance at the annual prize-giving at the clubhouse, Bayswater, when the trophies won during the past season were presented by the patron, Captain H. 11. Sergeant. In welcoming the guests who included representatives from the other clubs on the Waitemata and Manukau, the commodore, Mr. F. Thomas, referred to tho fine contribution in members which the club had made to the Forces, and he expressed pleasure at the voluntary return to work ill tho club bv past officials, several whose time of holding office dated back as far as W2O being present. Stressing the valuo of sea training for young men, Captain Sergeant urged the cliib to carry on in its good work with boys in the Z class Similar remarks were made bv the president, Mr. W. A. Johnston, who also referred to the sound financial position in which tho club found itself, in spite of tho difficult conditions. The principal prizewinners were: —Komuri, Winstone Trophy; Shalimar, Jubilee Cup; Irina, Fountain Cup; Matara, Champion Flag; Mercury, Ken Burnett Cup; Ariel, Kohri Cup; Tavvaki. Bloomfield Shield; Lawless -Shield (for'ard hands race). Derrick Reid Memorial Cup, Trevic Shield (interciub racing, representing Richmond Yacht Club); Kiioe, Waddell Senior Cup (local Cornwall Cup representative); Pat C., Fortzer Cup; Hurricane. J. Waddell Cup; Rio, Whit eh orn Cup: Spitfire, Mills Cup; Taranui, Mahon Cup; Tc Utu. Sports Cup. Orakei Model Yacht Club. —The value and need of creating sea interest in young New Zealanders was stressed by Mr. G. P. Robertson, chairman of the Auckland Anniversary Regatta Committee, in presenting the prizes won by the Orakei Model Yacht Club. The knowledge gamed by the lads, and also the senior members, in building, rigging and sailing the models which were constructed on scientific lines, was remarked upon by tho speaker. The commodore, Mr. A. R. Bcvins, in welcoming I lie visitors, referred to the number of members who were serving with the Forces, and said that, in spite of depleted ranks, Die club had had a successful season. Following were the principal prizewinners:—Juniors: Points Cup, A. Martin; gold medals, R. Martin, A. Martin, 11. Spencer, K. Martin. Seniors: Jensen Shield and miniature, R. Ross: Whangarei Rose Bowl and- miniature, G. Cole; Whitney Trophy. G. Adams; limes Trophy, G. Cole; Grayson Trophy, R. Hookham; Dennes Trophy. C. Grubb; Nicholas Trophy, J. G. Wilson; Robertson Trophy, R. Ross; Bcvins Trophy, D. Donaldson. A special presentation of a travelling case, was made, to Mr. G. Bcvins by the club members in recognition of the interest taken by him, first as a junior at the start of (he club and later as a senior.
