SOLDIER DROWNED

FALL FROM A CLIFF ["BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION*] DUNEDIN, Friday While walking around a ledge on the cliffs on the seaward side of Taiaroa Head this morning, Gunner Allan George Malaquin, aged 21, a member of a coastal defence unit, slipped and fell into the sea. A fair sea was running. and, although Gunner Malaquin clung to seaweed for some time, a companion was unable to reach him. Assistance was summoned, but before a rescue party could arrive at the spot Gunner Malaquin disappeared. Up to a late hour to-night there was no sign of the body. Gunner Malaquin's parents reside in Christchurch.
