A raffle for a gold watch helped to swell the proceeds on Monday night. It was drawn on the stage and there was cheering and applause as a member of the crew of a warship climbed into the ring to display the winning ticket.
There was an unusual incident In connection with a senior Rugby championship match in Wellington between Eastbourne and Wellington. Tne Eastbourne centre broke right away, with his winger in support. Nearing the goal-line the centre sold a perfect dummy to score a fine try. The wing-threequarter had stepped into touch and the line umpire, evidently watching the winger, had failed to notice the dummy, and raised his Hag. The referee ordered a line-out, which was an injustice to Eastbourne. It should be a lesson to linesmen to keep their eyes on the ball.
