PATRIOTIC DAY
APPEAL ON FRIDAY PROCESSION IN CITY ELABORATE ORGANISATION No effort is being spared to ensure success, both from tho financial and spectacular viewpoints, with the procession and parade to be staged in the city on Friday for patriotic purposes. Tho event is one of the concluding series of public attractions organised on bohalf of tho Fighting Forces Fund through tho Fighters' Mothers group competition. The organisers are confident that, with tho support and co-operation already promised, the procession will be one of the most spectacular displays of its kind ever presented in Auckland. It is estimated to extend over four miles and to accommodate this lengthy train of personnel and vehicles a circuitous route has been planned. Officials of the Auckland Commercial Travellers' Association, which is combining in the effort with the group organisations of the Fighters' Mothers competition, stated yesterday that the customary route through Queen Street and Karangahapo Road would not suffice. Subject to the approval of the traffic authorities, tho route will be from Quay Street, up Queen Street, along Fast Karangahapo Road, Symonds Street, Newton Road, Karangahapo Road, Pitt Street, to Albert Street, where the procession will disperse. Military units, including a detachment of infantry from Papakura camp, tho New Zealand Scottish Regiment, a Bren gun-carrier and crew, motor-cyclists and a 25-pounder gun, will appear in tho procession. Detachments of the Home Guard and groups of the Boys' Brigade and Sea Scouts are also expected to parade. Special cars will be provided for the seven fighters' mothers. Colour and gaiety will be features of about 100 decorated floats, each carrying a party or tableau. Outstanding among them will be the floats representing Allied nations. Local nationals are undertaking the presentations, which will be typical of the costumes and characteristics of the respective countries. It is expected that at least 12 nations will be depicted by special floats. The nine local bands participating will be interspersed in the procession at intervals. During the day 60,000 mystery envelopes will be on sale and other numerous attractions are being arranged.
