SERVICE APPEALS

Sir, —This fair land of ours is a wonderful place to live in; everyone admits it. Stirelv then, it is worth fighting for. But when one reads of 5000 appeals for exemption from service, up to the end of Slay, it makes one think that there is something radically wrong. A few vears ago it was decidea that anyone who wanted a job of work was told most emphatically that he must join the union first. May I suggest to the Government of this grand little country of ours that the same method bo applied again; everyone (single men first), who enjoys the privileges of the British Commonwealth of Nations must fight for the same. Cut out the appeals. It is a waste of time, and it certainly is throwing money away which is needed for other things. *6/612.
