A Clever Dog

J)EAR ANN!-] SHIRLEY,-When 1 road your interesting story, "Sharing the Kennel," J thought you might like to hear of my old clog Jack. Jack often helped us in the gathering of eggs on our poultry farm. When anv bird laid in the hedges lie always let us know, and if the eggs were beyond o ir reach he would carry them to us, one by one, in his mouth. On one occasion he was on his chain at the kennel, and as niv wife came toward him with a basket of eggs, he rose, entered his kennel and brought out an egg. A pullet had chosen the hay in the kennel as her nesting place. For weeks she lajd there, and whenever egg-gathering time came Jack would bring out her egg. Ho never broke one. —Yours sincerely, G. H. Parker.
