"MASCOTS ARE NONSENSE"
Unlike many of his friends in the R.A.F., Flight-Lieutenant Gauntlett, stationed in the west of England, does not believe in mascots and omens. He spills salt without a qualm, doesn't mind seeing a new moon through glass, is not dismayed when he shatters a mirror, and walks under ladders. He is reported to have said: "Mascots are nonsense."
