FIRE IN BREWERY
EXTENSIVE DAMAGE
NO LOSS OF BEER
LONG FIGHT WITH FLAMES
,Q C ) TAIHAPE, Friday A ' fire broke out at the Cascade Brewery, Taihnpe, at 4.30 this morning and was only extinguished by the firemen after a long battle with the flames. The outbreak originated in the malt room and gained a strong hold, flames pouring out of the windows of the top storey and the outside walls blazing fiercely. Although handicapped at first by a poor water pressure, the fire brigade eventually gained control. One fireman narrowly missed being struck by flying glass when a window blow out. The malt room was gutted, and other rooms also suffered to a lesser extent. A quantity of malt was lost, and damage was done to machinery and electrical installations, but no beer was lost. The office portion of the building was not affected by the fire. The Cascade Brewery is one of the most modern in New Zealand, a large sum of money being spent a short time ago on alterations and additions.
