IMPERIAL CABINET
ALL PAKTNEHS IN WAR
SIR EVELYN WRENCH'S VIEW (0.C.) KOTORUA, Friday The desirability of the establishment of an Imperial, War Cabinet was stressed l,y Sir Evelyn Wrench, founder of the Overseas League, at Rotorua. He naif] that from the general standpoint of the British Commonwealth a War Cabinet of the Prime .Ministers of the Dominions, as organised during the last war, would be advisable, and such a move would prevent misunderstandings and criticisms at the same time. Sir Evelyn said he understood that there had been consultation with the Australian and New Zealand Governments regarding the Middle East. "We have had knocks, and more are coming," said Sir Evelyn, "and there would be better feeling if all the members of the Commonwealth were directly concerned in the highest councils. All are partners in the conflict concerned and all should sit round the same table." Sir Evelyn stressed the need for New Zealand to keep the cradles full, and expressed concern at the declining birth-rate. He said he considered that both Australia and New Zealand should reconsider their attitude to immigration after the war, because there was urgent need for closer settlement in sparsely-populated parts of the Empire. "This will be one of the many changes coming after the war," said Six Evelyn. "I do not think that any country in the future will be a paradise."
