LABOURER IMPRISONED ■'Accused is nothing but a bird ol prey, meeting men from the country in llobsou and \ Htoria Streets, and taking them round hotels/' said Detective-Sergeant Nahler when Samson Robert Cleland. labourer, aged admitted a charge in the Police Court yesterday of stealing CKS. the properly of Alexander Kdward Aspin. While on holiday complainant was invited to attend a party at accused's house in Freeman's Hay, said Mr. Nahler. lie gave his money to a Maori woman for sale-keeping, hut accused, after striking complainant on the jaw. later left the house with the money ill his possession. The police, on visiting the house next morning, found ■">- empty quart bottles there. When located, accused said he had spent i'-'i of the motiev and lost £'lo.
Remarking that accused li:ul n !>ad criminal record Mr. I''. K. Hunt, S.M., imposed a sentence of six months' imprisonment.
