PRISONERS SENTENCED
SUPREME COURT CASES Three prisoners appeared for sentence before Mr. Justice Fair in the Supreme Court yesterday. Ln the case of George Charles Voting, aged •'!<->, labourer (Mr. Robinson), who had pleaded guilty to the theft of £IOO from his former employer, prisoner was released on three years' probation. Ho was ordered to pay £"2O costs, and additional restitution up to £IOO when able to do so. His Honor said that as a result of his offence, prisoner had lost his prospect of obtaining a trainer's or jockey's licence, and had also made substantial restitution. He was in employment and the probation officer reported hiin to be a good husband and father.
"This is a very bad case," His Honor said, in sentencing Valentine Samuel .Won, aged 20 (Mr. Aekins), to three years' hard labour, on a charge of indecent assault on a male. Counsel made a plea for mercy. The Crown prosecutor, .Mr. V. I!. Meredith, said it was imperative that such fin offender should In- put away under .some form o! rest raint.
A plea for prisoner to be placed under the supervision of the Child Welfare Department was made by Mr. Sullivan on behalf ol a youth of Hi' rears, who appeared for sentence on throe charges of indecent assault on a male. "This is also a very had case,"' His Honor said. He was satisfied that the interests of prisoner and the public required that he should lie subjected to a period ot discipline and training. He was committed to a Borstal institute for three years.
