FLOWERS IN WARTIME
"I am not one of those Dismal Desmonds who thinks of nothing but what is going_ to happen to us," said Mrs. Knox Gilmer, at the annual meeting ot the Wellington Horticultural Society. "Whv should -we say that we will not hold flower shows when they are still being hold in England? 1 consider, however, that more classes should bo included in our schedules for vegetables, fruit-growing and jam-mak-ing, and 1 make that recommendation to the executive." Discussing the growing of (lowers in wartime, Mrs. Gilmer said that it should not be forgotten that (lower-growing was a very largo industry which would be jeopardised if the shows were abandoned.
