1 CASE OF DENTAL STUDENTS! (0.C.) DUN EDI". Tuesday ' The position of dental students in relation to military service was outlined to the Otago University Council to-day in a letter from the Minister oi National Service, the Hon. R. Semple. The Minister stated that the question had been fully discussed by the National Medical Committee arid the War Cabinet, and a recommendation had been made to the armed' forces appeal boards to postpone service for | dental students who had reached a I stage 01 professional studies at which 1 they would normally qualify within j two years. This decision did not limit ! the authority of appeal boards, hotf--1 ever, and students could lodge ap- | peals to bring personal circumstances | before boards.
CHEESE FACTORY HANDS EXEMPTION ADVOCATED [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday Exemption of cheese factory assistants front overseas service to facilitate the increase in production called for bv the British Government was urged 111 a resolution carried by the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers' Association as a recommendation to the annual meeting of the association, to be held in Hamilton on May 28. The recommendation states: f'ln view of the request, of the Imperial' Government for an additional 45.000 tons of cheese, the meeting considers, it essential that the Minister of National Service take immediate steps to retain the services of sufficient cheese ' factory assistants to carry out the work, more especially in face of the necessity of double shifts in a number of factories, and. further, that such assistants now in camp should be released from*active service abroad and transferred to the,: manufacturing department of the dairy industry." EXEMPTIONS GRANTED ROMAN CATHOLIC PRIESTS Exemptions sine die on the condition that the reservists remained in their present occupations were granted in the appeals 011 behalf of 14 Roman Catholic priests and religious teachers at a sitting of the No 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board yesterday. The appeal? were entered bv Bishop Liston, who was represented bv the Rev. Father P. T. McKec-fry. All the reservists are engaged in the Auckland diocese.
