SOCCER GAME
SENIOR CONTESTS MATTER OF STARTING TIMES MATCH WITH MILITARY SIDE Reference to the wonderful condition of Blandford Park was made by Mr. F. H. Baker, chairman of the Auckland Football Association, at last night's meeting of the control board. His remarks were prompted by a visit [laid to the ground by several old players and members of a southern association last Saturday. The senior division committee reported that it had considered the question of the times of starting the two games at Blandford Park nnrl made the following recommendations to the board: That the first game should commence at 1.40 p.m. and the second at 3.15 p.m. That if the teams are not ready to take the field at the specified times a penalty or fine be imposed on the offending team. The question of a late start in the early match delaying the commencement of the second game was raised. It was agreed that should the first match start after 1.40 p.m. the reforee be instructed to divide the time evenly, so as to allow the second game to commence at 3.15 p.m. It was also decided that if the teams were late in taking the field for the second match the board would enforce the recommendation of the committee relative to a fine or a penalty being imposed. It was decided to agree to the recommendations for one month, when the matter will be reviewed. The entry ot a team from Papaknra Camp was confirmed. The New Zealand council advised that the question of a visit from the Chinese Soccer team shortly to tour Australia had not been lost sight of. and the matter would be considered by the council al its next meeting, together with the request of the Auckland association that, if the council did not go on with the tour, the Auckland association be given permission to negotiate direct for a short tour of the Auckland province. It was reported by Mr. J. C. Sibbin that negotiations were well in hand for the selection of a Fighting Forces team to oppose an Auckland eleven on King's Birthday. It was agreed to ask the secondary schools' association to provide the curtain-raiser to this representative match. The death of Mr. C. V. Maloney, a vicepresident of the association and a member of the judicial committee, was the subject of sympathetic reference, and the members stood in silence as a mark of respect to his memory
