SUPPLIES BY PARACHUTE
EMERGENCY SCHEME PLAN (0.C.) ROTORUA, Wednesday Plans for the landing of emergency supplies by parachute in isolated areas or of rifles and machine-guns in time of war were discussed with an official of the Rotorua emergency precautions committee by Mr. I*l. A. Madden, of the Department of Scientific and Industrial' .Research, and Mr. A. M. Prichard of the Public Works Department. The officials arrived by air from Palmerston North. v A demonstration was given of the manufacture and operation of the small parachutes, which are designed to carry a weight of 281b. In tests carried out they have proved so effective that eggs in a paper bag. without any packing, have beer, landed without cracking from oOOft, The parachute will become part of the standard equipment of the Emergency Precautions Scheme.
