THE HOME GUARD
Sir, —I have read the article published on March 11 stating that the Minister of National Service may direct any individual to serve in the Home Guard and L would be obliged if anybody could explain its reason. "Tighten up" the Home Guard when the Home Guard is a voluntary civil organisation to tighten up the defence scheme. "Compulsion" to join a fundamentally voluntary democratic organisation, 'which from the outset was declared to have the right to elect its own officers. "Disciplinary fines" when we can make it hot for officer or man who transgresses, and tlie Home Guard is not composed of tame pussy cats. Change with changing circumstances is understood, but drastic breach of contract, without consultation with those concerned is neither wise nor courteous, and we feel sure is not in accord with the policy of the proper authorities. No regulation or change should he made that has the tendency to check enthusiasm or encourage n path v. ' Home Guardsman.
