WATER SUPPLY
NORTH SHORE PROBLEM In reply to a telegram sent by the Mayor of Takapuua. Mr. .1. Guiniven, 011 Friday, asking whether tlio Board of Health would insist upon the North Shore Water Board taking the whole of the water required hv the Povonport. Taknpuua and Northeote boroughs, or only part, and whether the lake was to he abandoned when the city supply was available, the following telegram was received on Saturday from the Minister of Health, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason: ''l! eg ret cannot give definite answer. Both, matters not yet decided by the Board of Health, and I cannot: anticipate their decision." Mr. Guiniven said on Saturday that the City Council's proposal regarding a one day's storage of water at Birkenhead was not the best way of dealing with North Shore requirements. If a hve days' storage were adopted the lake could be dispensed with, and there would be 110 need to purchase plant or land. A one day's storage at Birkenhead would mean that the lake would have to he retained as a standby.
