ARMY EXERCISES
PROVINCIAL REGIMENTS MANOEUVRES AT CLEVEDON Three provincial infantry battalions which this week are engaging in brigade manoeuvres in the Papakura-Clevedon area moved on Saturday irom their training cauips to the first of their field billets. For the rest of the week they will sleep where they find themselves at the end of the day s work, under hedges, in thickets and on hillsides. The manoeuvres are being carried out bv the Ist Battalions of the Hauraki, North Auckland and Waikato Regiments. and by the Auckland Company. New Zealand Scottish Regiment. They are under the direction of Colonel R. A. Row, D.5.0., commanding the Northern Field Force, and Lieutenant-Colonel C. S. White, V.D., N.Z.T.S., officer commanding the Ist Now Zealand Infantry Brigade. All the units moved into the area of manoeuvres on Saturday, the Hauraki Regiment going from To Aroha, the Walk atos from Cambridge, and the North Auckland Regiment from Ngaruawahia. The move was carried out in the units' own transport vehicles, and was under service conditions, the day being used to instruct the units in this aspect of field service. They also took precautions against possible aircraft attacks. A comprehensive programme of day and night exercises has been arranged for the week. When the manoeuvres are completed the units will return to their areas for demobilisation, this having been arranged for before Christmas.
