HUT DEDICATED

BISHOP OFFICIATES NARROW NECK CEREMONY CHURCH ARMY FACILITIES The dedication of the new Church Army chapel and recreation hut at Xarrow .Neck Military School was performed Inst night by Bishop Simkin. The building was officially opened afterward by the Mayor, Sir Fnrnest Davis, who handed it over to the camp commandant, Major J. G. C. Wales, M.C., JS'.Z.S.C. "The provision of a chapel at this military school is a recognition of the lact that man is more than an animal," said Bishop Simkin after the dedication ceremony. "In the stress and strain ot warfare it is difficult to realise the presence of God in the world, but it is His presence that sustains men in the strain of battle." Archdeacon H. A. Hawkins, senior Army chaplain, said he would like to make it clear that the hut had been built by the National Patriotic Fund Hoard, and on that account he would like to see those present support the fund to the best of their ability. The Mayor said he was present as the representative of the Patriotic Fund Board. He had been delighted by Archdeacon Hawkins' complimentary reference to the hoard, because since ils inception the organisation had been more frequently maligned than praised. The value of the organisation and regulations brought in by the Government at the beginning were turning out well. Parishioners of Epsom and Ellerslie donated the chapel furnishings and vessels, and the buffet will be staffed by women from the Devonport Holy Trinity Church. The recreation portion of the hut, which can he combined with the chapel, is provided with a billiard table and other recreational facilities, with a capacity of about 400 persons for rneetings.
