LAND FOR POST OFFICE

[from our own correspondent] WHAKATANE, Tuesday A decision that if the Public Works Department wished to acquire any of the board's lands it should do so compulsorily, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, was reached when a special meeting of the Whakatane Harbour Board considered a letter from the purchase officer, Public Works Department, relative to the purchase of a site for the proposed new post office for Whakatane. The letter stated, inter alia: "If your board owns other vacant land in this locality, I need hardly pojnt out that the erection of a post office on this site would probably enhance the value of the balance of the land."
