CRICKET SEASON

SENIOR COMPETITION NO REDUCTION IN TEAMS MATCH AGAINST WELLINGTON The manner in which the 10 senior teams wero maintaining their full complement; and also the standard of their play formed the subject of complimentary remarks by Air. W. 11. Fee, chairman of the Auckland Cricket Association, at the management committoo meeting last evening, when the question of reviewing the position came up for discussion. Mr. Fee said that, although several of the teams had lost players and consequently matches, efficient substitutes had been found to bring the teams up to standard again and he felt that nothing should be done in the matter of reducing the number of teams in the grade. This also was the opinion of the members, and it was agreed to finalise the first round draw before reviewing the position again, i Tho secretary, Mr. E. J. Price, reported that arrangements were complete for the match against Wellington at the Basin Reserve at Christmas time for the Centennial Shield. Discussion ensued on the best date tor the return match at Auckland and it was agreed to play it at Eden Park on February 31, 15. 17 arid IS. The junior committee reported that the Wellington and Canterbury junior representative teams would tie in Auckland at Christmas time and asked for the assistance of the senior delegates in locating billets for the players. The match against Wellington, which will be a Brabin Cup fixture, will be played at Eden Park on December 20 and 27. Although the (fame with Canterbury has no trophy attached to the result, interest will be taken in the fact that this is the first time that a junior Canterbury side has played Auckland at Eden Park. Sutherland, a member of the sub-committee attending- to cricket activitities on fhe committee of the Fibrillins: Forces Fund, reported that a golf tourney had been arranged for Sunday week at the Akarana club's course, which had been kindly loaned by the club for the purpose. He intimated that entries would close with the association secretary on Friday week, and it was hoped that solid support would be given to the tourney and so swell the contribution to this patriotic effort. The ladies' committee, which it was decided to form in connection with the patriotic activities, had been set up, said the secretary, after a meeting on Monday, and a further meeting' would be held in the rooms of the Auckland Rugby League next Tuesday afternoon at 2.30 p.m. A request from the Returned Soldiers' Association that it bo allowed to enter a team in the Country Week competition was received. The reouest stated that, if the rules of the Hellaby Shield precluded this entry, the team would be prepared to play matches against teams drawing byes. It was decided to refer the matter to the Country Week committee, which stated that entries closed for this competition next Tuesday. The Grosver.or Gun committee., which awards points for fielding, punctuality, and general conduct of teams on the field, forwarded its report of the points gained to date, which were as follows: —North Shore, 34; Training College, Papakura Camp, 31; Grafton, Ponsonby-Balmoral, 30; Parnell, Middlemore. 29; Eden, University, 2S; Y.M.C.A., 20.
