APPEALS ALLOWED
GOLD MINE TALLYMEN Judgment has been issued by the Arbitration Court on two appeals by the Martha Gold Mining Company (Waihi), Limited, for whom Mr. West appeared, against a magistrate's decision regarding alleged breaches of the northern clerical workers' award. The alleged breaches were in respect of the same men but for different periods, during one of which one clerical workers' award was in operation, while during the other a subsequent clerical workers' award was effective. The question was whether certain tally clerks, or weighmen, employed by the ' company were clerical workers within the meaning of the award and were entitled to be paid accordingly. The magistrate found tlicv were, and imposed a penalty of 10s against the company in each case. By a majority decision". Mr, A. L. Monteith. workers' representative, dissenting, the Arbitration Court has held that breaches of the awards had not boon proved, and the appeals have been allowed, with costs.
