CITY AND PROVINCE BOISTEROUS RAIN SQUALLS AN IMPROVEMENT INDICATED Boisterous weather prevailed over most parts of the Auckland Province vesterdav, a. strong north-westerly wind and intermittent heavy rain squalls being experienced in many districts. In the Waikato there was a heavy thunderstorm early in the morning and the rainfall for the 24 hours ending at 9 a.m. was .54in., bringing the rainfall for the first seven days of the month to 1.09 in. Conditions were decidedly wintry in Auckland about mid-dav, when there was a sharp fall in the barometer. The wind reached its height then and squalls swept over the city and suburbs. Heavy seas wore running in the Waitemata Harbour. A few logs broke loose from a barge and drifted on to the western tidal deflector, but they were recovered without causing any damage. Later in the day the Avind veered to the west and heavy seas were reported at Onehunga last night.'
