TAKANINI HORSES
ATTRACTIVE SPRINTING BORAK AND LOVAALS FIT GLEN , CONNELL IMPRESSES A smartly-run four furlongs by Borak nnd Silver Clarion, and excellent gallops over five furlongs by Lovaals, Kraal, Grandora, Mysito and Lady Pay, marked the work at Takanini yesterday, when the going was cutting out on the surface of the inside grass track, the poles being 10 feet out. A strong north-easterly wind assisted horses in the early stages of their gallops, but retarded them in the run home. Lovaals (Stockley) ran the best five furlongs of the morning in 1.3 1-5, the initial two furlongs being run in 24 2-ss. With the probability of a soft track on Saturday, Lovaals has prospects in the Electric Handicap at Avondale. Kraal (Spinley) was also responsible for a nice effort in traversing tho distance in 1.3 2-5. Kraal would be better suited by a firm track, but she may still prove dangerous in tho Three Kings Handicap. Mysito Defeats Classic Grandora . (Lonsr) worked freely over five fur'ongc in 3.4 1-5, Lady Pay (Cleaver) also pleased to record 1.5, which was very satisfactory for a novice. Foxola (Coker) and Heroic Star (Brown) sot off on a fivo-fur-long gallop, but Foxola's saddle slipped, the pair running the distance in 1.10. Mysito (McTavish) was too good for Classic (Green), whom ho defeated comfortably by a length in 1.5. An attractive effort went to tho credit of Borak (McTavish), who got the worse of the start with Silver Clarion (Green), and completed half a mile a length to the good in sii The best has yet to be seen of Borak, while Si'.vrr Clarion was responsible for the best effort of the Takanini two-year-olds engaged in the Juvenile Handicap. Manama (Stockley) had little in reserve at Hie end of a similar task in 52 l-ss. Koute March (JackVon) and Arvakur (Smith) were associated over four furlongs, run in 51 4-.">s, Koute March, a fancied candidate for the Juvenile Handicap, worked particularly well. Snake Gully (Cleaver) and Payetfo (Spinley finished together in 525. Glen Connell (Cleaver) was impressive in galloping six furlongs in 1.17 3-5, the initial three being run in 375. Maxain (Spinley) was stopping at tho conclusion of a similar task ran in i.lB, but this was accounted for by the pace shown over the first three furlongs, which were run in 355. Maxam is a fit mare, who may be suited by easy conditions on Saturday. 1 nver (Stockley) finished half a length in front of Princess Vnl (Coleman) at the end of Six furlongs in 1.17 4-5, while the impressive defeat by four lengths of Sunola (Cleaver) by' Cornish (McMinn) in 3.10, drew attention to the hitter's prospects in the Members' Handicap. Cornish appeared as though he could have done better. Valamito and Mazir Xamar.i (Beguely) infused plenty of dash into iiis seven-furlong gallop, traversed in 3.'32, being assisted over the first four furlongs by Court Favourite (Ferrall), tills section requir"Mazir (Green) and Valamito (McTavish) were again well matched over a mile, which required 1.40 4-5, but Valamito was doing it. slightly better. They ran the first four furlongs in ."VJ 3-ss, and the first. s;x in 1-lfl L-5. Details of other gallops are as follows: — Three Furlongs.—Flood Tide (Coleman), 30 l-ss; Queen City (Inglis), 41s; Kotori Pai (Long), 40s. The three-year-old Paper Money gelding Dispense won the Okains Trial Stakes well at tho Banks Peninsula meeting on Saturday, but the finishing effort of Willow Wood was very attractive, and he should show the benefit of that race at Riccarton. McKenzio had two winning representatives at tho Motukarara meeting, the galloper King's Toast and tho pacer Spangled Maiden. In each case tho pilot was having his first success. King's Toast was ridden by D. Corboy, who is apprenticed to C. Emerson, and Spangled Mniden was driven by J. R. Bryco, a nephew of James Bryce. Cymric gained a very easy success in the Knit una Illgh-weighl Handicap at the Banks Peninsula meeting, and he had a similarly effortless win in tho High-weight Handicap at Rangiora on Labour Day.
