CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL
BUILDING AT KAITAIA THE OFFICIAL OPENING [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] KAITAIA, Friday There was a. large gathering from all parts of the Mangonui county in Kaitaia to-day when the centennial memorial rest room and library build-%. jug was officially opened by the Ministor of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry.
The official party, which included M essrs. C. W. Boswell and P. Iy, Paikea, M.P.'s, and Mr. J. FT. Boyes, Commissioner of Social Security, was received by the Town Board and County Council officials, and Mr. W. Jones, Mayor of Whangarei,. who was present as chairman of the Northland zone centennial committee. A feature of the ceremony was the singing by the school children of "God Defend New Zealand." Mr. C. J. E. Barriball, chairman of the Mangonui County Council, welcomed the visitors, and speeches were also made* by Mr. L. Peace, chairman . of the Kaitaia, Town Board, and Mr. Jones.
Mr. Paikea spoke to his people in Maori ai*.l then generally to the gathering in English. Mr. Boswell spoke briefly in introducing the Minister. Mr. Parry congratulated Kaitaia on a line building, which would he oF the greatest use to'residents. A noteworthy feature was that children were enabled to be present to-day, he said. Looking after the children was looking after the future nation. The Minister also congratulated Kaitaia on the part it was playing in the war. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of centennial ribbons to old residents. V
