CANTERBURY POTATOES DISASTROUS SEASON [BY TF.T.ECRAPT1 —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CIIBfSTCTf FBCTT, Friday It nppenrs fairly certain the potatoes to lie shipped from Tiniaru for Sydney within tin* next week will be the last to he exported from New Zealand this season. This shipment of nhont God tons will bring the total exports for the season to oS.'lO tons, 0000 tons being the quota under the lirst export arrangement and ISO tons having been sent awav recently.

Since "tlit* yield of tahlo potatoes (front holdings of one acre or greater outside I)orough boundaries) was estimated by the Government statistician at 100,: WO tons, the exports wore a very small proportion. Many growers have hoen left with a substantial part of their crops on their hands, some with the greater part. One grower lias reported that he still has 100 tons. While this quantity would have been worth something more than £IOOO at this stage ol last season, it is not this season worth the cost of digging. Merchants who have been in the trade tor many years cannot remember a more disastrous season for the grower. The reeent better inquiry for grass seeds lias been maintained without any change in prices.

GYMKHANA AT EPSOM ,\ wide series of events, including racing competitions ;uid poultry and dog shows, has been arranged for the jrviiiUhana which will be held at the Kpsom Showgrounds to-day, coinmeiKing at 11.. -> i 0 a.m. In addition there will be a military display by the New Zenland Scottish Regiment and band, together with athletic contests for the soldiers.
