BANDITS FOILED
ELDERLY WIFE'S COURAGE Waiting four hours for the return of a jewellery salesman to his home i» Flushing, near New* York, after binding and gagging his wife, four armed bandits were forced to flee when the woman freed herself and shouted out the window to neighbours for help. . Mrs. Grace Belmont, G9 years old, admitted the men to her home at 4 p.m. when they asked about hiring her garage. The men grabbed Mrs. Belmont and tied her to a chair in the living room. They told her they would wait for Ernest Belmont, her husband, who was expected to have some jewellery with him. When her son, Arthur Dohertv, aged 45, entered the house nearly'four hours later,- they beat hnn; severely about the head. . While the bandits were attacking Doherty, Mrs. Belmont broke away ana started' shouting out the window, and the men fled.
