HEIGHT OF FLATS

MOUNT EDEN RESTRICTION PROPOSED STATE BLOCK A recommendation from the Townplanning Committee that consent be withhold for the building of a largo block of flats in Edonvale Road by the Department of Housing Construction was adopted at a meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council last night. Mr. S. E. Chappell explained that the site was in the portion of the borough in which buildings were restricted to two storeys, and that the ; department was endeavouring to take advantage of a by-law which permitted the construction of rooms in the roofs of two-storey buildings in this area. However, in the proposed block these rooms would amount to whole flats, and this was contrary to the spirit of the by-law. The council decided to discuss alterations with tho department.
