MEASLES IN CAMPS
TE RAPA CLOSED AGAIN WEEK-END MISUNDERSTANDING [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday Having enjoyed leave on Sunday after the lifting, of the isolation ban on the military camp at Te Rapa racecourse, troops of the third echelon units who have suffered from the measles epidemic rather more than soldiers elsewhere in the country have been confined to camp again. Reimposing the ban. authorities state that the camp was opened during the week-end as a result of a misunderstanding. Measles are still fairly prevalent at Te Rapa and, although the outbreak is not of a serious nature, there has been little change in the intensity of the epidemic during the last few days. Six fresh cases were admitted to the Waikato Hospital's emergency ward at the Hamilton West school yesterday, while a further case developed to-day. further cases are reported from Xgaruawahia.
The second case of measles during the last fortnight occurred to-day at Claudelands, -where the 7th Medium Battery is in camp. The patient has been taken to the Waikato Hospital.
OUTBREAK AT BURNHAM MOBILISATION TO PROCEED [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION'] • CHRISTCHT7RCH, Tuesday An outbreak of mild German measles has been reported officially at Burnham mobilisation camp. A few cases have occurred among territorial units, but the majority of the case?, which do not exceed 20, have been reported in the district school non-commissioned officers. It is not anticipated that infection will cause further suspension in the calling up of the Fourth Reinforcements, and it was stated to-day that mobilisation would proceed on October 2. It is not proposed to evacuate the patients from camp so long as requirements can be met by the accommodation available at the camp hospital.
