CIVIL PAY FOR SOLDIERS
Sir, —As Kipling's Mac Andrew, the Scotch engineer, savs, "Oh, ay, the Scotch are close," but seemingly not' close enough to penalise a man for doing a man's job in time of war as the following newspaper extract just received shows: —
"The National Joint Council, representing the Association of County Councils and the Association of Counties of Cities on the one hand, and the Educational Institute of Scotland on the other, unanimously agreed to recommend education authorities to make up naval or military pay to 100 per cent of civil pay, thereby following the lead given by the more enlightened authorities in the war of 1914-18, and, incidentally, the lead of tho Government itself."
