LADIES' GOLF

PROVINCIAL TITLE PLAY COMMENCING TO-DAY SEVERAL VISITORS PRESENT The annual Auckland ladies' provincial golf championship will be commenced at the Titirangi Club's links this morning. Apart from the large entry of players attached to Auckland and suburban clubs, there are visitors from other centres. The holder of the title, Mrs. P. R. Glanville (Te Awamutu) will be defending it. She recently won tho South Auckland championship at Hamilton, thereby demonstrating that she is at tho top of her form. Miss E. Edmonds, of ihe Harew*ood Club (Cliristehurch), comes from furthest afield. Tho only other South Islander is Mrs. K. Dvkc, formerly Miss Joyce Betts, of Nelson. She is well known as a New Zealand Tasman Cup representative, and is the lowest handicap player (2) in tho field. Last week she added nnother Nelson championship to her long list of successes in that event. Miss N. Smillie, from Palmerston North, did a good practice round yesterday and is expected to perform well. Other visitors include Mrs. I. Rota (Hawera), Miss J. Stewart (Whangarei Club and North Auckland champion), Mrs. S. Wilson (To Kuiti), Mrs. L. Cornaga (Cambridge), nnd Mrs. E. W. Foote (Rotorua). To-dav's programme will consist of two qualifying rounds for tho championship and also medal rounds in conjunction in both tho morning nnd afternoon. Match play for tho championship will be commenced to-mor-row morning and tho tournament will conclude on Thursday afternoon. The first pair will tee off this morning at 8.30.
