PRISONERS' DEPENDANTS
distribution of benefits [BY TELEGRAPH SPECIAL REPORTER] WELLINGTON, Monday have been completed under which the Social Security Department has taken over the provision of benefits for the dependants of prisoners," said the Minister in charge of Prisons, the Hon. D. G. McMillan, ir- an interview to-day. "In the past this was done by the Prisons Department, but it is felt that this work can be done more expeditiously and satisfactorily by the Social Security Department, which has offices in all parts of thu Dominion." Dependants of prisoners should applv direct to the local office of the Social Security Department for guidance in making application, said the Minister. As Minister in charge of Prisons he would continue to have, of course, a direct interest in the welfare of prisoners' dependants, and would take an active interest in the working of the new scheme, which would make for less hardship on innocent people than had exiited in the past.
