MARKETING OF FISH
CONFERENCE AT WHANGAREI [BY TELEGRAM—OWN COHIIKSPONDKNT] WHANGAREI, Monday With the view of placing the fishing industry in Whangarei on a sounder footing a conference was held to-day between Mr. A. H. Honeyfiold, chairman of the Auckland Provincial Fisheries Advisory Committee, Mr. T. I?. Anderson, a member of tho committee, and representatives of the fishermen and wholesale and retail fish merchants. It is to bo recommended to the Bureau of Industry, as a result of the conference, that the two retailers at present buying direct from the fishermen be allowed to continue purchasing from these specified men, both in Whangarei and the Bay of Islands, that the only wholesaler in Whangarei bo permitted to continue to maintain a retail establishment, that a seine net fishing hoat from Auckland land fish in Whangarei and the wholesulo firm purchase this at Auckland prices, tho local lino fishermen to receive 4d nor lb. for headed, gutted nnd gilled fish. Tho position of tho fishing industry in Whangarei had been tho subject of representations from the" Whangarei Harbour Board to tho Bureau of Industry. and the board was represented ut the conference.
