TAKAPUNA CLUB'S PRIZES

There was a largo attcndnnco of members and visitors at the annual prize distribution and danco of tho Takapuna Boating Club, held in the clubhouse, Bayswater. In the absence of the commodore, Mr. K. W. Fountain, who is serving with the forces! tho vicocommodore, Mr. F. Thomas, welcomed the visitors, who included Commander C. H. T. Palmer, chairman of the Auckland Yacht and Motor-Boat Association, Mr. AV. B. Darlow, Captain A. 11. Sargeant, and Mr. O. M. Denncs, chairman of the Auckland Regatta Committee. Mr. Thomas said a feature of tho season's ritciiip was Unit 78 prizes, apart from trophies, were distributed anions -in boats, and a fact that spoke well for the keen competition. Referring lo the large number of members who had joined the. forces, Mr. Thomas said that the "club had decided to make thoin honorary members and issue them with a special badge and certificate which might bo useful as an introduction to clubs oversoas.

Several speakers referred in glowing terms of tho valuable work which tho club was doing in sponsoring tho small boat class, which provided sound training for boys and youths. The principal prizes, which wore presented by Mr. \V. B. Darlow, were as follows: Trovic Shield. Takapuna Boating Club; Goodfellowship Cups, 'Tamaki, Takapuna and Manukau; Masse.v Thompson Cup. Wilson; Mills Cup, Mcola; Mahon Cup, Cheerio and Te Hoa. dead-heat; Winstone Trophy, Caress; Jubilee Cup, Marjorie: Kon Burnett Cup, ■ Muimai; Fountain - Cup.^iJeanette;
