BEQUEST TO STATE
£2OOO FOR WAR PURPOSES AUCKLAND WOMAN'S WILL ANONYMOUS LOAN OF £15,000 [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Friday The Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, stated to-day that £2OOO had been bequeathed to the New Zealand Government under the will of Mrs. H. V. Bayly, of Auckland. The will stated that this sum was "to be applied toward defraying the expenses of the present war against Germany and her allies."' , . The action of the late Mrs. B?yly in making this provision was much appreciated by the Government. He felt that her relatives would be proud that she was the first to make such a fine gesture. The Minister added that the total of interest-free loans and donations %vas £2,410,197. Among the interest-free loans were: Anonymous, Hamilton, £15,000 for the duration of the war and six months afterward; the New Plymouth Harbour Board, £5000; and the Invercargill Building Society, £2OOO.
